JORDAN G.

US NAVY --- Gunner’s Mate, 1st Class

May is Military Appreciation Month, and more than likely you already have a modicum of familiarity with the annual celebration of America’s armed forces. At GOVX, our year-round goal is to recognize and honor those who’ve served, worn the uniform, and defended the country we call home. Whether we're supporting military non-profits by way of the GOVX Gives Back initiative or sponsoring and participating in events and tributes locally and nationwide, ensuring that servicemembers feel seen and appreciated is always a clear and present priority.

With that said, it’s been a minute since we first introduced the YOU ARE GOVX series. With the celebratory month now upon us, we strongly felt that this presented the the ideal time to bring it back --- and Jordan G. the ideal member to switch the spotlight back on. Here’s his story.

GUNNER’S MATE. RANGE OFFICER. FIREFIGHTER. FAMILY MAN.

Hailing from a family of Marines, Jordan knew from an early age that a future in the military would be his ultimate calling. Inspired by his stepfather and determined to be the best at everything and anything, he enrolled in the US Navy and began a journey that would take him around the world.

During his initial stint as an active duty and reservist, he honed his attention to detail and care that would come to define his career. Through his training, he mastered mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and learned the ins and outs of weapons operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

With his contract completed, Jordan soon embarked on a new path by officially joining the St. Louis Fire Department after briefly plying his trade as a hairstylist and earning the nickname Zohan while waiting out the application process. During his tenure there, he served the St. Louis community as a firefighter and gained a new perspective with each call.

“The majority of our calls were medical. You’re going to someone on their worst day, our job is to make sure they survive it.”

Settling into the second act of his service career, Jordan found similarities between both the military and fire responder fields, both in leadership and camaraderie.

“Whether you’re heading into a burning building or heading downrange, you need to surround yourself with people you can trust. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed enough to experience that with both crews.”

Feeling a pull to return to where he started, Jordan returned to active duty status, relocated his growing family to San Diego, and set forth on a second go-around with the US Navy. Now serving as a Gunner’s Mate, First Class, Jordan also provides firearms training and safety instruction on base. Instilled with an unwavering sense of duty and an ongoing dedication to country and community, we’re proud to call Jordan a GOVX member and thank him for his service and his time.
