For two and a half centuries now, the U.S. Army has served as an enduring symbol of courage, discipline, and service to this great country. Today, the legacy lives on as the branch continues to serve as a constant through decades of challenges and change. To commemorate the milestone 250th birthday, Team GOVX headed out to the National Mall in Washington D.C., to be there in person for the festivities on Saturday, June 14th.
HERE'S WHAT WENT DOWN
THE DAY WAS ACTION PACKED
Kicking off with the U.S. Army Fitness Competition Award Ceremony streamed live on social and YouTube, this event acknowledged and honored the soldiers and teams for physical achievement. Army Strong is more than just a catch phrase, folks.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the public festival was officially underway complete with soldier interactions, military demonstrations, equipment static displays, and live musical acts from The U.S. Army Band, Noah Hicks, and DJ Nyla presented by MDW, as well as a performance by the U.S. Army Drill Team.
The festival’s highlights also included the Medal of Honor Recipients Recognition Presentation, the Army Astronaut Special Presentation, and cooking demonstration by Chef Andre Rush to close out the day.
The stacked schedule of events and performances paved the way for the official cake cutting, parade, and epic fireworks show that evening.
GOVX WAS THERE FOR IT ALL
Posted up at our booth, Team GOVX was on hand to meet and greet festival attendees, document the ceremonies, hand out custom-designed GOVX lapel pins, and make sure everyone went home with some free swag. For the entire team, it’s our honor to celebrate and cultivate community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be there for such a momentous occasion.
KAGAN DUNLAP CAME ALONG FOR THE RIDE
U.S. Marine Corps officer, fitness trainer, military content creator, and all-around good guy Kagan Dunlap was on the ground on behalf of GOVX to interview those in attendance and deliver a firsthand account of the bash to his legion of followers.
The results? Well, you’re going to want to see for yourself.
THE PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO PARTY
Despite the threat of rain and hot, muggy conditions, more than 250,000 patriots were in attendance for the celebration, in addition to 6,600 military members. The parade and related birthday festivities represented the largest public showing of military might in D.C. since 1991, according to CNN. If you made it out, we salute you and we’re happy you were there with us to witness history.
