The Runner’s Guide to the Inaugural San Antonio Marathon

There’s just something about the city of San Antonio that feels right. From the vibrant scenes to the deep-rooted southwestern pride that runs through every street, it’s a unique convergence of color, community, and culture at nearly every turn. Which is part of the reason why it makes the perfect setting for the debut of the next great American marathon.
On the weekend of December 5th, 2025, thousands of runners will set forth to #RUNSATX for the inaugural San Antonio 5K, Marathon and Half Marathon, and GOVX will help usher in the citywide celebration as the Official Military and First Responder Community Partner.

As a perk to those participating, certain stretches of the route will contain a specific theme highlighting San Antonio’s identity and heritage. Each themed mile is designed to tell the city’s story and deliver a more immersive experience for each runner and include:

San Antonio proudly carries the title Military City USA thanks to its enduring bond with the U.S. Armed Forces, a relationship more than 300 years strong that continues to define the city’s spirit as we know it today. The nickname was officially trademarked in 2017, which is suited really, since city statistics show that about 1 in 8 adults who call San Antonio home happen to also be a military veteran. This gives San Antonio one of the highest veteran populations per capita in the United States.
For those familiar with the area, Lackland AFB is notable for hosting Air Force basic training, while Fort Sam Houston operates as the home for the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, and Randolph AFB stands as a hub for training and education for future pilots.
HELP SUPPORT FACE THE FIGHT
San Antonio Sports has named Face the Fight as the Official Benefitting Partner for the 2025 San Antonio Marathon. Committed to veterans and founded by USAA, the foundation’s mission is to break the stigma surrounding suicide in the military community, promote awareness, and foster open conversations about mental health, support, and hope.
For the marathon, runners will have the opportunity to raise money in support of Face the Fight, with TEAM GOVX stepping up to match $10 per bib for each participant.
