Inside Children of Valor's Mission to Support Special Ops Families

Helping the next generation thrive through education and advocacy.

As military children navigate challenges like frequent moves and parental deployments, one national organization is helping them overcome obstacles and achieve their educational goals.

Since 2011, Children of Valor has served as the only non-profit dedicated to delivering consistent, expert, and tactical academic and developmental support to the children of U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF). The organization offers personalized, on-demand support that travels with families, addressing the unique educational and emotional challenges of Special Operations life.

The mission is simple:

To make sure every military child succeeds academically, no matter the obstacles they face brought on by the military life, especially frequent moves and the stress of deployments.

The Programs

S.E.T.S. (Special Education Testing, Tutoring, and Therapies)

Military families are often also tasked with navigating different school systems, understanding special education laws, and advocating for their children's educational needs. Balancing those responsibilities alongside the demands of military life can be overwhelming.

Children of Valor helps lighten that load by providing annual scholarships for individualized, in-person academic support for children in the Special Operations community. Families can apply for scholarships each year from June 1–30, with applications reviewed by the organization's programs committee and awards announced before the start of the school year. Every scholarship is funded through the generosity of donors and grant partners, helping military children receive the support they need to thrive.
