How Danner’s Made in the USA Program is
Anchoring a New Era of American-Made Boots
Stitched tough for over 90 years.
"We’re going to give you boots that you can be proud to wear.
Boots that can claim the best quality available, anywhere."
- Bill Danner, President of Danner Boots, 1978
Established in Wisconsin in 1932, Danner found its true home in Oregon in 1936 to build boots for the rugged logging industry. Nearly a century later, they’re still proudly rooted in Portland, operating year-round in the Pacific Northwest. Today, Danner’s fifth-generation manufacturing facility sits just a quarter-mile down the road from their R&D and headquarters—proving that innovation and traditional craftsmanship live side-by-side.
For generations now, the skilled craftsmen at Danner’s factory have dedicated themselves to the art of boot making. Their unmatched experience has gone into every stitch, creating rugged, reliable boots built specifically for America’s hardest workers. As the years have passed, they’ve leveraged the know-how of their in-house team to create the Made in the USA program, ensuring that many of the brands most popular continue to be manufactured at the Portland factory by the best hands in the business.
The Standards of Excellence
Danner splits its USA-made lineup into two clear tiers, depending on where the materials are sourced.

Made in the USA with Imported Components
Built to last, these boots are entirely hand-crafted here in the USA. Danner combine premium domestic leather with top-tier global components, like Italian-made Vibram outsoles and waterproof GORE-TEX liners for unmatched quality.

BERRY Compliant
This strict federal designation applies to specific military and tactical lines. To meet this standard, the boots must be 100% made in the USA from American-sourced materials, from the leather and laces down to the eyelets and thread.
These models fully comply with military uniform regulations, including U.S. Army AR 670-1 and USAF AFI 36-2903.
The Signature Stitchdown
The hallmark of Danner’s domestic manufacturing is their classic stitchdown method. Unlike standard glued footwear, the boot’s leather upper is flared outward and secured directly to the midsole using heavy-duty, interlocking thread.

The Quality Check
Long before a blade ever touches leather at Danner’s Portland factory, every single hide faces a meticulous 5-point inspection. While other brands are content to spot-check random batches, Danner hands-inspects 100% of their full-grain hides.
If a hide can't survive the lab, it won't survive the intense stress of the manufacturing line or a grueling lifetime of use.

The USA Collections
Danner’s USA-made boots are divided into specialized collections tailored to specific, demanding environments.
Masters of the Recraft
At the heart of Danner's USA-made program is a commitment to sustainability through longevity. Thanks to premium full-grain leathers and stitchdown construction, these boots are an investment, not a disposable purchase.
When your soles finally wear smooth, Danner’s in-house Recrafting Program in Portland can completely overhaul your boots—replacing outsoles, repairing stitching, swapping hardware, and conditioning the leather to give your favorite pair decades of new life.
