The chunky footwear favorites just got a little cooler.

Hate ‘em or love ‘em, Crocs has beat the odds to become one of America’s favorite shoe brands. Whether you deem a pair aesthetically pleasing or not, there’s no knocking the difference-making comfort and addictive enjoyment of getting them decked out with interchangeable charms. While they may feel like they infiltrated shoe collections seemingly overnight, the fact is that they’ve been around for over 20 years.

Building off a pandemic push and a few well-placed celebrity endorsements, they’ve shot up the ranks of the shoe world and earned their place at the top. With a stacked lineup available to save on through your GOVX membership, let’s get you debriefed on some of the little-known tidbits about these foam frontrunners.

Ready? Let's CROC.

10. THEY’RE BASED IN COLORADO, BUT ROOTED IN CANADA

That’s right. Even though the official Crocs headquarters is currently located in Broomfield, Colorado, the original shoe design was acquired from Foam Creations, Inc of Québec City, Québec. Major thanks to our neighbors from the North for creating such a unique footwear icon.

9. CROCS DEBUTED AT THE 2002 FORT LAUDERDALE BOAT SHOW

Marketed primarily as a boat shoe, the first edition of Crocs were revealed to those in attendance to little fanfare and next to no publicity. With 200 pairs in tow, the initial Crocs crew sold everything they had and returned home with a hit shoe on their hands.

8. THEIR SHOE LINE WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED ‘THE BEACH’

Uninspired? Perhaps. Inaccurate? Maybe. Either way, it didn’t stick, and they were quickly re-christened as Crocs complete with a snazzy new logo. We'll come right out and say this was the right call.

7. THEY MOLD TO YOUR FEET

Ever wondered why they seem to fit so well? Crocs uses a propriety material known as Croslite that conforms to the shape of your feet, making them even more comfortable with extended wear. How's that for long-term value?

6. EVERY PAIR OF CROCS CONTAINS 26 TOTAL HOLES

That’s 13 per shoe if we’re keeping count. It doesn’t matter if they’re clogs, slides, limited editions, or the classics. If they’re Crocs, they’ve got 26 holes total. They’re strategically placed to facilitate ventilation, drain water, and keep your blood flow circulating. That's some math we can back.

5. SINCE 2020, THEY’VE DONATED NEARLY 1 MILLION PAIRS TO HEALTHCARE WORKERS

As part of THE FREE PAIR FOR HEALTHCARE program, Crocs stepped up to provide medical heroes with pairs free of charge during the pandemic. A long-time favorite of the healthcare community for their comfort, durability, slip-resistance, and easy-to-clean design, Crocs took the initiative to do a good thing during a difficult time.

4. THE CLASSIC CLOGS ARE AVAILABLE IN 30+ COLORS

Variety is the spice of life. Today, you can find yours in a vast collection of hues good for complimenting whatever you’re wearing on any given day. Plus they make a spectacularly vibrant shoe rack.

3. THEY SERVED AS THE TITLE SPONSOR FOR THE ASSOCIATION OF VOLLEYBALL PROFESSIONALS

Internet research is sparse, but from what we can tell they outfitted athletes during the Australian Beach Volleyball season from 2006 to 2009. This also included event-site signage and retail space.

2. THEY MAKE A GOLF SHOE

Geared toward fair and foul-weathered golfers, the Men’s Preston Golf Shoe provides a spikeless design with an enhanced grip that’s unlike anything else on the course. Water-resistant, lightweight, and composed of premium leather, it’s only a matter of time before you start seeing the pros sporting these at every tournament.

1. THEY’RE CALLED CROCS FOR A SPECIFIC REASON

As their logo would suggest, they are in fact inspired, and named after the feared reptile. But more than that, they’re made to perform both on land and on sea. Fitting.
